Our Story

Established in 1997, Coulter & Co are an independent firm of Chartered Certified Accountants based in 
Melton Mowbray. 

At Coulter & Co we pride ourselves on providing a personalised, professional service tailored to your individual accounting needs. 

By understanding the requirements of small to medium sized businesses – including sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and LLP's – we are able to offer timely, individual advice on how best to improve your business or personal finances.

From our offices in Melton Mowbray, all of our accountancy services are delivered in a cost effective manner and, where possible, we'll give an estimate of our fees before undertaking any work.

About Us
Marcus West FCCA

Managing Director

Marcus joined Coulter & Co back in 2001 and qualified as a chartered certified accountant in 2005. Marcus is originally from the Melton Mowbray area and having gained experiences in all aspects of accountancy and taxation, he became a partner in 2008. In 2021 Michael Coulter retired and Marcus became the Managing Director and 100% share owner of Coulter and Co. When he isn’t working you will usually find him on a golf course or walking his dogs with his wife Grace.

Jason Harrison FCCA

Client Manager

Jason joined Coulter & Co back in 2008 straight from passing his A Levels, he quickly got AAT qualified and then in 2013 qualified as a chartered certified accountant.

Jason is responsible for all areas of accounting and taxation and looks after his own portfolio of clients whilst supporting the other staff members.

Jason who is a relatively new parent still finds time to follow his beloved Leicester City all over Europe and has completed the 92 ground challenge.

Jemma Tillson

Accounts Assistant and Office Manager

Jemma left university with a degree in Mathematics and joined Coulter & Co in 2002.

Jemma is responsible for the preparation of accounts, VAT, Tax Returns, bookkeeping and payroll she also controls all of our clients statutory filing obligations. Jemma is also proficient in handling various accounting and payroll packages such as SAGE, Xero and Superpay.

Outside of work Jemma enjoys socialising with her friends and family, walking her dog, shopping and going out for meals and to the theatre.

Richard Brown 

Accounts Assistant

Rich worked in West Bridgford for a Chartered accountants for 4 years before moving to Coulter & Co in 2017. Rich is responsible for producing company accounts and maintains clients records through the year on various accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks and Sage. He also runs many of our clients’ payrolls, VAT returns and CIS returns.

Rich has two children and when he isn’t busy looking after them you will find him playing football.

Claire Parker

Accounts Assistant & Payroll Manager

Claire who is AAT qualified joined Coulter & Co in 2017.

Claire is responsible for payroll and pensions, preparation of company accounts, taxation, VAT & CIS returns, and bookkeeping. Claire has gained very good experience with various account packages   SAGE, Xero, QuickBooks
and Superpay. 


Claire has 2 sons and when she has some spare time away from them she enjoys socialising with her friends and going out for dinner.

Ben Bates-Issitt 


Ben joined Coulter and Co in 2023. He has been in the Accountancy profession for 16 years and become ACCA Chartered in 2019. Ben is a client manager here who is responsible for all areas of accounting and taxation alongside looking after his own portfolio of clients and supporting other staff. When not at work you will find Ben on a golf course or spending time with his Dog and Fiancé.

What We Offer

Management Accounting

Available for new and established businesses, our management accounting services include the preparation of monthly or quarterly accounts to help measure performance and identify trends. This detailed analysis can prove key to budgeting and strategic planning.

Tax Compliance

With expertise in the areas of both business and personal taxation our tax advice can prove invaluable. Corporate and business tax will represent a substantial cost to any profitable business, not only in terms of the tax itself but also in compliance with reporting obligations, investigations with tax authorities and penalties for non-compliance. Our tax advice and compliance services can help you minimise your corporation tax and income tax payments and relieve you of the administrative burden of complying with tax legislation. We can also offer longer term tax planning to mitigate the effects of Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax.

Tax Returns

We can take care of the administration of complying with tax legislation, including the preparation and submission of partnership tax returns, corporation tax returns and self assessment tax returns, Working closely with you through each section, we can determine the information required to accurately complete your returns.

Sage Training

As a Sage member all of our accounts are prepared on the most up to date software to ensure filing in the correct format. We offer a comprehensive training service to all new clients and will initially visit your premises to introduce you to all aspects of the software. Once up and running we will happily return to guide you through more specific tasks such as completing your first VAT return.

VAT Accounting

Due to the variety of VAT rates that apply to different goods or services, VAT Accounting can be a confusing aspect of any business. From maintaining your VAT records and the preparation and filing of your VAT Returns to offering ad-hoc advice, we can work closely with you to ensure the accuracy of your VAT accounting.

VAT Advice

As your business changes and grows, we can provide you with right VAT advice to ensure that you are aware of any changes in the VAT obligations of your business. This can range from advice about the level of VAT you should be charging on your products / services to advice about the appropriate VAT scheme for your business.

Analyzing Data

VAT Registration

VAT Registration is currently required for most businesses with an annual turnover of £85,000 in a 12 month period. We can work with you to guide your business through the VAT Registration process and also give advice on the potential benefits to your business of VAT registration, even if it is not a legal requirement.

Business Advice
